Questions

Before you begin, the plain answers

What the dose actually involves, what it costs, and whether it works alongside what you already take. If your question is not here, just ask.

01 Starting out

What is Goldenturas?
An integrative psychiatry practice offering care by telehealth across California and in person in Ventura County, led by board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioners. We look at the whole picture: what you have tried, what you are living through, and what you are building.
Is this right for me?
Goldenturas is for people ready to move forward. If you want care with room for the whole picture and a plan oriented toward growth and neuroplasticity, this may be your path.
Who is care for?
We see patients throughout California, and you need to be physically in the state at the time of a telehealth visit. No referral is needed. Integrative psychiatric care is available for ages 5 and older. The sublingual ketamine program is for adults 18 and older only.
How do I begin?
You begin by booking a visit. The first one is a comprehensive evaluation, where we look at everything that may be contributing to where you are and build a plan that fits you.

02 The ketamine program

What does “very low dose” actually mean?
A dose intended to keep you present and clear. There is no sedation, no recovery day, and no clinic visit to plan around. Your exact dose is set individually and adjusted over time.
Is ketamine FDA-approved for mental health care?
Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic and is prescribed off-label in mental health care. Off-label prescribing is a common, legal practice. During your evaluation we explain what the evidence supports and where it runs out.
What is neuroplasticity?
Neuroplasticity is the brain's natural ability to form new connections and patterns. Our care pairs very low-dose ketamine with a daily practice built to support it.
Do I have to do ketamine to be a patient here?
No. Goldenturas can serve as your complete psychiatric provider with or without ketamine involved. Plenty of people come for thoughtful medication management and whole-person psychiatric care and never start the ketamine program at all.
Can I keep taking my current antidepressant?
Usually yes. Ketamine can often be combined with existing psychiatric medications when it is clinically appropriate, and your full medication list is reviewed carefully during the evaluation. For appropriate candidates, care can also support a plan to taper off medications or lower doses.
How do you know whether it is working?
We use validated rating scales at regular intervals alongside your own account of how life actually feels. Both matter. If the numbers and your experience disagree, we talk about it rather than defaulting to one of them.

03 Cost and insurance

What does care cost?
Goldenturas is a cash-pay practice. Visit pricing is confirmed with you when you request a consultation, before anything is booked. If ketamine is part of your plan, the medication is billed separately by a compounding pharmacy, not by us. We have no financial interest in what you are prescribed.
Do you take insurance?
We do not bill insurance directly. Goldenturas is a cash-pay practice, and payment is due at the time of service. A superbill can be provided on request, which many patients submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

04 Practical details

Where is care available?
Anywhere in California by telehealth, with in-person visits available in Ventura County, including Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Oxnard and Ventura.
How long is an appointment?
Visit timing and length are flexible, with several options to fit your life. Follow-ups are long enough to actually talk.
Who will I actually see?
A board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Goldenturas is a nurse-led practice, and you can read about your provider on the About page.
